Specialise after year two
Generalist EV roles plateau. BMS algorithms, motor control, functional safety and charging protocols are where pay rises fastest.

Freshers in battery, BMS, embedded or power-electronics roles typically start at ₹4–8 LPA; with 3–6 years' experience ₹8–18 LPA; senior engineers and leads earn ₹16–35 LPA or more. Technicians start lower, at about ₹2.4–4 LPA.
Which EV job pays the most?
Specialist R&D roles — cell chemistry, BMS algorithms, motor control and power electronics — and EV product management pay the most, especially at senior level, because the skills are scarce.
Which cities pay the most for EV jobs?
Bengaluru, Pune, Gurugram/NCR, Chennai/Hosur and Hyderabad have the most EV engineering roles and the highest pay, because OEM R&D centres and battery makers cluster there.
Can a mechanical engineer get an EV job?
Yes. Battery pack design, thermal management, vehicle integration and validation all hire mechanical engineers. Adding EV-specific skills — pack design, HV safety, CAN basics — and a hands-on project makes the switch much easier.
